Has your addiction caused you to do damage to your body? Do you feel you’ve distanced yourself from friends and loved ones, and perhaps even burned bridges with others? Have you ever felt that your addiction has put your job and livelihood at risk? These are all common signs that the time has come to look toward the next phase in your life.
Addiction doesn’t happen overnight. It’s much more likely for there to be a series of small exceptions that accumulate over time. Eventually, the moment comes when you look back and ask yourself how you ever got here in the first place. It’s never an easy realization, but it’s an important one, because it’s at this point that you can begin to look forward to a brighter and healthier future. It’s time for a change. And here’s where you start.
- Stress: Take a moment to examine what your habits are when under pressure. What do your instincts tell you and what do you do to cope with the pressure? By understanding your triggers, you can’t begin to learn to control them.
- People: More often than not, when someone tells someone else that they’re in the “wrong crowd” it’s not received particularly well. That’s why it’s your responsibility, and not anyone else’s, to recognize that there might be individuals in your life who do not have your best interest at heart.
- Fun: What do you do when you have time to kill? What do you associate with pleasure? The goal is to recognize that there are ways to enjoy yourself without damaging your body. The more you can motivate yourself with this sentiment, the better.
- Self: Ultimately, this all comes down to self reflection. If you are not happy with the person you’ve become, the worst thing you can do is to let that person continue to control you. Change isn’t easy, but it is absolutely possible. Let us help you.
These are the keys to recognizing the problem and beginning to get a grasp on how you can beat it. Does stress make you want to self-medicate? Are there people in your life who do not care about your wellbeing, or who are actively encouraging you to do damage to your mind and body? Do you find yourself constantly resorting to substance abuse for fun, instead of spending time with friends, exercising, and going out? And finally, are you unhappy with yourself and perpetuating your unhappiness with your addiction? We’re here to tell you that it’s okay. Here’s to new beginnings!
